An inedible stew of visual lunacy much of which I concocted with my own three hands.

Away
The other blog is up and ready but I've decided to go away for a few days and when I return I'll decide what to do... either send out invitations or continue with this one.
Dan - that's hysterical and true. I'm only trying to provide you all with some entertainment, keep you on the edge of your seat and, as with any adventure, add some needed conflict.
Claire - of course I would send YOU an invitation, but right now with so many other projects going on in my life, I don't have time to start up another blog. Therefore, I'll stick it out with this one for the time being until the inevitable happens and once again, I flip my lid.
Two cents: "Forget it, Jake; it's Chinatown." The fluidity of intellectual property on the internet is nearly impossible to police. It's going to happen that people take your stuff, and it's going to happen that you won't be credited some of the time. Usually, that kind of thing is corrected if it's caught. In the long run, it will only bring more traffic to you. Try not to be so offended by it.
And remember, although you are recontextualizing some images, many of the images you're posting are images that someone else created. Granted, they are lovingly rendered and preserved - my kudos and appreciation to you for that, as that's not an insignificant amount of work - but outside of owning the source material, the works *themselves* are someone else's property. Unless you took all these pictures, in which case: Wow!
I don't mean to "poke the bear" here, but as an early lurker, and eventual follower and commenter, I thought I'd throw in my "just sayin'."
Dan - well put, articulate and insightful. And while it may appear I'm some bipolar lunatic, I fully understand that many, if not most of these images have been around for decades and it’s merely the acknowledgement of others I occasionally seek. A simple comment or one of these things :) before they run off and plaster it on their page.
Someone recently emailed me and asked if they could use some images I created. That alone, to me, showed consideration. I told them they didn’t need to put a link up to my blog nor did they need to credit me with anything. you're right most of this stuff really isn't mine to begin with.
As an artist or writer or what have you, I’d have to equate all this to performing in front of an audience. After you’ve finished playing a song it’s nice to hear even one person clap... usually that person is a good friend, my mom or girlfriend, but in any case, it provides the inspiration for one to go out there and do it again.
So thanks for clapping. Your advice has been well-received.
Following this blog has more ups and downs than some relationships I've been in. Your pictures are worth it, though.
ReplyDeleteI had to terminate my blog too much danger from the web crawling I was doing.
ReplyDeleteIf you decide to go with The New Twisted Vintage, I would definetly appreciate an invitation.

ReplyDeleteFritz ! You will be missed. I have a special post for ya... that's only moments away.

Please, keep them coming.
"You talkin' to me?" Taxi Driver.
