    I imagine many couples slept in single beds back then... on television shows it was the norm to show a bedroom scene this way.

    Having the ropes loose makes them struggle more.

    It was forbidden to show couples in the same bed on TV. Also, profanity was forbidden. I guess tight or loose ropes are different flavors of the same filia.
